As a child I loved designing and making stitched and embroidered handbags and pencil cases out of remnants and old clothing, and as a teenager I moved on to jewellery and dress making. This creative energy and productivity has culminated in a desire to pursue a career in the fashion industry.
My love of travelling has been a great source of inspiration to me, and is evident in my photography, drawing and painting. I hope that by studying your Fashion Design course, these cultural and ethnic experiences will influence my work. As well as inspiring me in my artwork, I enjoy learning about and experiencing the different cultures of the world; the exotic cuisines, climates, beliefs and ways of daily life.
I have great admiration for the designers Christian Dior, Jean Muir and Alexander McQueen as well as the work produced by Viktor & Rolf and Etro. My artwork has also been influenced by Alison Watt, Leonardo da Vinci and Victoria Crowe who I studied at great depth last year.
My interests lie very specifically in the complete process of creating designs and transporting them through production and on to the wearer.
By studying the Fashion Design programme I would develop my existing skills and knowledge to a professional level as well as learning new techniques and concepts. I would especially look forward to working with new materials and technology, and having the opportunity to explore my ideas and inspirations to their fullest potential. Having visited your department, I believe I would thrive and grasp every challenge thrown at me in such a creative environment.
Gaining professional experience through the teaching and guidance over the 3 years, and also experiencing involvement in industrial placements and internships is key to my reasons for selecting this particular course.
My certainty as to my choice of future career and the path that I have chosen fills me with energy and drive to get started.
